Definition of Taekwondo

Literally translated, the Korean words:

"TAE" means "to kick with foot,"

"KWON" implies "a hand or fist to block, punch, or strike,"

"DO" means an "art" or "way."

Thus, "TAE KWON DO" means the art of kicking, blocking and punching. However, TAE KWON DO is not merely a physical fighting skill; it is also a way of life. Martial arts students have become more familiar with TAE KWON DO since 1988 when it made an appearance in the Seoul Olympic games as a demonstration sport.

Through disciplined training, TAE KWON DO improves both in mind and body, placing great emphasis on the development of personal character. Students are taught that Self-Control, Self-Discipline, Kindness and Humility must accompany their increased physical strength and ability.

Our goal at CENTRAL TAEKWONDO is to dedicate to every student our enthusiasm and sincerity, always encouraging them to do their best at all times while guiding them on the journey to a stronger body and mind and always exhibiting the respect, perseverance, dedication, and integrity that we ourselves expect from our students.
